Being an organized stay at home Mom isn’t just a thing of dreams, it is possible if we work at it!
Even if you do not start out your journey into being a mom, as a naturally organized person. You are capable of getting organized and staying organized.
These 10 simple tips will help you get started on the right foot.
Sometimes, the concept of ‘getting organized’ seems overwhelming and impossible.
But we need to care about learning how to be more organized as Mom’s, because it does provide many benefits to our families.
I know, that as a busy mom myself that last thing I ever want is something added to my plate. Keeping things as simple as possible is always the goal.
Admitting to ourselves (or even others) that every day is spent in chaos because WE can’t get on top of things. Is a hard thing to admit. Additionally, being an organized stay home mom requires conscious effort to make it a priority every.single.day. Which can make us feel less than excited about working at it.
However, when we come to the realization that being more organized doesn’t have to be a 100% or 0% thing, it suddenly seems possible.
When we take a goal like…learning how to be a more organized stay at home mom. Then break it down, into smaller steps, goals, or tips is the difference between taking action or staying in the rut you are in.
All too often we dive headfirst into something and quickly drown ourselves. We get excited to start something new and try to do too many steps at once. BEcoming an organized Mom is a process. One we need to move slowly, and work methodically towards.
Identify your highest priority and start there. This can be…
Priority setting isn’t just deciding what cleaning task is the most important that day. It’s okay to set priorities in regards to our personal growth, goals, and dreams as mothers and women.
I have some tips here to help you create a productive mom routine, that is easy to stick too. No matter how busy you are.
Remember, our productivity doesn’t determine our worth. Sometimes the word productivity can leave a sour taste in the mouth. BUT it is important to be a good manager of the time we have each day. Whether as a stay at home mom, or a working mom.
There are SO many options out there for planners. We have paper planners, digital planners, apps on our phones, and so many more. EVERYONE is going to be different with their preferences as to what works best in their life, and for how their brains work.
Then we also have complete planners, daily planners, combo daily and weekly planners. The list continues to go on and on here as well.
“Wait…didn’t you just tell me to plan my life?”
Well, yes I did. But some moms and families also benefit from having a wall calendar as well. Serving as a place to centralize the most important information for each month. Especially if your kids are younger and you don’t utilize ‘tech’ to sync digital calendars together etc…
A paper wall calendar is almost ALWAYS a great idea for families to keep them on the same page with each other’s schedules.
Look here to check out what is the best calendar for busy moms to get started finding a wall calendar that is right for you!
Another MAJOR buzz word. Some families LOVE to meal plan, and for other’s it is just another source of chaos and stress. Even though it is an action that is supposed to bring about family life organization.
So, that is why I believe you should only add this to your daily mom routines when you feel ready.
If meal planning is a source of stress for you – although its very important to make meal planning a routine, it can also feel overwhelming if you’re also trying to learn other new habits at the same time.
If you struggle to meal plan, but see the importance of it. Then my best tip is to at least incorporate thinking of a dinner idea for the next day into your nightly routine. So you can take out some meat to start to thaw.
Consider creating a ‘theme’ for each day of the week to simplify your household cleaning schedule.
So for example clean your bathrooms every tuesday. Not only does this prevent you bathroom from getting nasty (and taking longer to clean). It also sets it as a routine in your mind, and becomes habitual after time.
Do similar tasks at the same time: this is sometimes called batching. It can be really helpful for busy moms to incorporate some batching methods into daily routines.
This can especially be a big time saver for when you’re doing errands. Try to do your errands on the same day. Even if you live in an urban area and everything is ‘so close to home.’
It can really eat up a lot of precious time, to leave the house multiple times in a day, or within a few days. For tasks that you could have done all together. Especially when you have little people in tow!
Create a note on your phone for saving ALL your coupon codes to. I have a note in the notes app on my Iphone labelled “Coupons” and I have it pinned to the top.
We all get so many emails all the time with promo codes. I just copy and paste these codes into this note so I can get the email out of my inbox. This clears my mind knowing I have kept the code handy in a place I know where to look for it.
Nothing worse than standing at the checkout trying to locate your coupon code, but have NO idea where it went in your email inbox. And even the search function isn’t pulling it up. Yes…great when kids are screaming too!
Keep this handy tip in mind, especially for groceries. I get a lot of coupon codes emailed to me for extra reward points on my order or for dollars off etc.
Do enough self-evaluation often enough to know when to put tons of effort in too something and when to leave well enough alone. I LOVE her parenting blog, and she has some really great tips to help you with this in regards to your kids.
But also know when you should give more effort, and when you should let the sleeping dog lie, in your personal life as well.
Unpopular opinion alert – but I think sometimes we are too EASY on ourselves as Mom’s and adults. I am NOT talking about #Momguilt here. I am a major sufferer of mom guilt myself.
What I mean, is more that we don’t exercise enough self-discipline. Because ‘we are the adult, we can make our own decisions and pay for those consequences.’
Whereas if we buckled down a bit, made better decisions the first time we wouldn’t have to deal with those consequences later. Just make your bed, just put that hairbrush away where is belongs. Grab those papers off of the counter and file them. NOW, not later.
